Two versions of Batman. Two different worlds. One special comic book event. DC is bringing the worlds of the traditional Batman and Absolute Batman together in Batman of Two Worlds #1, a special issue created specifically for Batman Day 2026.
Announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Batman of Two Worlds #1 will make its global debut on Batman Day, September 19, 2026, in participating markets around the world. The special comic will be available exclusively on Batman Day, giving readers a chance to celebrate one of DC’s most famous characters with a story that puts two very different interpretations of Batman side by side.
The comic features two all-new stories. The first is a new Batman story written by Matt Fraction and illustrated by Javi Fernández, with colors by Tomeu Morey and letters by Clayton Cowles. The second story focuses on Absolute Batman and is written by Scott Snyder, with art by Nick Derington, colors by Frank Martin, and letters by Tom Napolitano.
What makes Batman of Two Worlds #1 especially interesting is the opportunity to see how these two versions of Batman approach the idea of justice. While both characters share the Batman name and many familiar elements, the worlds they inhabit and the ways they operate can be very different.
Matt Fraction explained that the story gives readers the chance to look at the moral, ethical, and political structures surrounding each version of Batman. Putting the two interpretations next to each other allows those similarities and differences to become much easier to see.

Scott Snyder also described the project as a unique moment for Batman. According to Snyder, the goal was to show what makes each interpretation special while connecting them through Batman’s particular approach to justice.
The contrast between the classic Batman and Absolute Batman is a major part of the appeal of this special issue. Rather than simply presenting two versions of the same character, the comic explores how different circumstances can shape the way Batman operates. It gives readers an opportunity to consider what remains recognizable about Batman even when his world, circumstances, and approach change.
The cover of Batman of Two Worlds #1 is a collaboration featuring artwork by Jorge Jiménez, Nick Dragotta, and Frank Martin. Nick Dragotta’s involvement makes the cover particularly notable for collectors interested in the Absolute Batman era.
Batman Day has become an annual celebration of the Dark Knight, and this special comic gives the 2026 event an additional collectible release. Batman of Two Worlds #1 is priced at just $2.99 in the United States and will be available at participating local comic book shops worldwide.
For readers who enjoy seeing different sides of Batman, this issue offers something unusual: two interpretations presented together in one special release. Batman of Two Worlds #1 brings together the established Batman and Absolute Batman for a historic Batman Day event, making September 19, 2026, a notable date for comic book collectors and readers.
